Tsarskoye Selo

I did post pictures from Tsarskoye Selo/Tsar's Village/Pushkin a year ago, when we went there for the first time, and sometime this past summer as well. It's a wonderful place, very diverse, very interesting.

There's a palace there, with lavish interiors (including the famous Amber Room), and it's a museum now; there're also some very very nice residential neighborhoods nearby... There're various imitations constructed during the tsars - of a mosque (my favorite), of the Egyptian pyramids, of a Japanese temple, of the ancient and medieval ruins; and there're some very real and quite modern Russian churches and Russian ruins there as well... There is one park that they are taking very good care of (you have to buy a ticket to enter it), and there's another park right next to the first one, which is free and somewhat neglected... There is a street there called Academicheskiy Prospect (Academic Avenue, the last two photos here), which looks pathetic and totally non-academic - and there's a very cozy restaurant with only four tables at the end of it (a dinner for two there would cost around $100)...
